Tobacco Free Network (TFN)

About the Coalition

In April 2015, Tobacco Free Partners became a part of Health Net of West Michigan. Health Net strives to improve the health of our community by bridging gaps in care and connecting resources that already exist in Kent County. This goal of connection led us to our new name – Tobacco Free Network! While we have a new name we are still committed to reducing tobacco and nicotine use in West Michigan.

Why We Exist:

Although there have been great strides in the reduction of tobacco use in the United States over the last 50 years, it remains the single most preventable cause of death, disease, and disability. Michigan’s tobacco use rates are particularly high, with only nine other states ranking higher. Additionally, our most vulnerable citizens are at the greatest risk. The producers of tobacco and nicotine products continue to aggressively market to vulnerable populations and are expanding with the emergence of new products like e-cigarettes. With this new frontier for tobacco companies to capitalize on, the fight to reduce and prevent tobacco use is as relevant as ever.

Our Mission and Vision:

  • Mission: Dedicated to preventing and reducing tobacco use in West Michigan
  • Vision: To create a tobacco free West Michigan

Getting Involved:

We recognize that sustainable change is a long-term effort requiring true collaboration between the public and private sectors. Our intent is to grow the Tobacco Free Network with people and agencies inspired to make grassroots change.
