Getting involved 

FitKids360 volunteers and professionals are committed to helping families in Kent County and nationwide lead healthier lives. FitKids360 classes are led by teams of local experts and volunteers.

Mentors:

Each mentor works with participants and their support partners throughout the program. Mentors offer support and encouragement to the participants and their families.

Requirements: Must be pass a background check prior to working with a family. To mentor individually, volunteers must be at least 18 years old; if a volunteer is younger than 18 years old they can mentor with a volunteer who is over 18 years old.Commitment: This is a two-hour one-night-a-week commitment for seven to eight consecutive weeks.

In addition, all FitKids360 volunteers must:

  • Be committed to the program
  • Be consistent in attendance
  • Pass a background check
  • Sign a Confidentiality & Exercise Waiver

Our program also needs:

  • Certified fitness professionals
  • Exercise specialists
  • Registered dietitians
  • Licensed social workers

Fitness Professional:

Each class has 30+ minutes of physical activity built into the curriculum. Each week a different type of exercise is introduced to the group. Typical activities are Zumba, kickboxing, yoga, circuit training, bootcamp, relays, and karate.

  • Requirements: Certified in a health-related discipline (ACE, NASM, etc.) and/or have a four-year health-related degree. Must be able to modify the activities to meet the needs of the participants.
  • Commitment: This is a 30-minute commitment for one of the seven FitKids360 classes.

Exercise Specialist:

The exercise specialist teaches a 15-20 minute lesson on physical activity. A standardized curriculum is used throughout the seven-week program. Sleep and the acronym F.I.T.T. are few of the topics covered.

  • Requirements: Certified in a health-related discipline (ACE, NASM, etc.) and/or have a four-year health-related degree. Must attend a FitKids360 training and volunteer at a FitKids360 class before teaching the curriculum at a FitKids360 class.
  • Commitment: This is a two-hour one-night-a-week commitment for seven to eight consecutive weeks.

Registered Dietitian:

The registered dietitian teaches a 30-45-minute lesson on nutrition. A standardized curriculum is used throughout the seven-week program. MyPlate and reading food labels are a few of the topics covered.

  • Requirements: Must be a registered dietitian. Must attend a FitKids360 training and attend a FitKids360 class before teaching the curriculum at a FitKids360 class.
  • Commitment: This is a two-hour one-night-a-week commitment for seven to eight consecutive weeks.

Social Worker:

The licensed social worker teaches a 30-45-minute lesson on behavior. A standardized curriculum is used throughout the seven-week program. Bullying and emotions are a few of the topics covered.

  • Requirements: Must be a licensed social worker. Must attend a FitKids360 training and attend a FitKids360 class before teaching the curriculum at a FitKids360 class.
  • Commitment: This is a two-hour one-night-a-week commitment for seven to eight consecutive weeks.
