Welcome home baby
About Welcome Home Baby:
Welcome Home Baby, previously housed at First Steps Kent, was created in 2010 to be a “gateway to Kent County’s early childhood system, connecting new parents in the first days of their child’s life.” The program takes a systematic approach to reach new families and connect them to the resources they need.
Here's how we help:
Welcome Home Baby (WHB) is a free service that connects families with newborns to area resources. A representative from WHB is available to meet with you if your child was born at Metro Hospital University of Michigan Health or Mercy Health Saint Mary’s Hospital. In this brief visit, we will suggest programs that would be the best fit for your family. After 30 days, the WHB representative will follow up with you to answer questions and connect you with further resources as needed.
Who is elegible?
- Any first-time mothers living in Kent County, regardless of health coverage
- Any Kent County mother with a newborn receiving benefits through Medicaid
