Welcome home baby

About Welcome Home Baby:

Welcome Home Baby, previously housed at First Steps Kent, was created in 2010 to be a “gateway to Kent County’s early childhood system, connecting new parents in the first days of their child’s life.” The program takes a systematic approach to reach new families and connect them to the resources they need.

Here's how we help:

Welcome Home Baby (WHB) is a free service that connects pregnant women and families with newborns to information and community resources. The resources and information are intended to support you and the healthy growth and development of your child. Some of these resources include home visiting programs, playgroups, or child development information and screening. A representative from WHB works with you to suggest programs that are the best fit for your family. After 30 days, the WHB representative will follow up with you to answer questions and connect you with further resources as needed.

Who is eligible?

Kent County residents who meet one of the following criteria:

  • first-time mother, regardless of health coverage
  • pregnant woman or mother of a newborn receiving Medicaid benefits
  • newborn eligible for Medicaid
